Home Investigation: Magnets

20140225-213033.jpg
I bought these magnets for a song at the local flea market. I thought magnet investigation would be a fun activity for Caleb. I provided him with various things to test his magnet on.

He surprised me during this activity by creating with the magnets instead!

Look mom!

Earphones! Hahaha! This boy cracks me up.

Enjoying himself.

I urged him to go around the house to see which things, objects, appliances his magnet would stick to. He did this for a while and went back to “creating” instead.

Look! A number 8!

His creative juices were flowing! Why would stand in the way of that? Haha! Let’s try again tomorrow 😉

Clothespin Counting Game

20131107-221035.jpg
I got this idea from one of the brilliant moms on Pinterest.
So easy to do and Caleb got to practice counting!
I drew two dinosaurs. Prepared clothespins and a dice. Caleb insisted on wearing his silly hat.
We each took turns rolling the dice and putting the corresponding number of clothespins on our dinosaurs to make them look like stegosaurus spikes.

Count the pins before pinning.

Adding the spikes.

Whoever gets the most “spikes” on their dinosaur wins the game! Caleb is counting his clothespins to see if he really won the game.

Wonderful practice for counting and comparing more or less.

Sticker Sets

Using stickers to make sets.
Just another fun way to count
.

Caleb kept on telling me that the number 1 was missing. Maybe I should’ve made the numerals 1-3. Thought that would be too easy. Oh well!

This took some time to finish since Caleb would lose count while taking the sticker out of its plastic liner. No complaints from me! That just meant more counting practice for him. He would recount every after he puts a sticker on the paper to make sure that the numeral and the number of stickers matched.
