Sock Counting

Simple counting can be fun! All you need is a sock and some counters that are big and easy to feel. We used glass stones.

I told Caleb to close his eyes while I put some stones into the sock. Then, I asked him to feel how many stones were inside the sock.

Feel counting. Exploring his sense of touch.

CALEB: There’s only two!

He checked the sock to see if there were really two stones inside. He was so happy to find out that he was right.

CALEB: Let’s do it again!

I had no problem with that, whatever gets him to practice counting. ๐Ÿ™‚

Nuts and Bolts

Look at what we found in Dada’s toolbox! I explained what these were for – kept things together. Then, we went all around the house inspecting furniture, fixtures, and appliances looking for where these were being used.

Of course, I couldn’t keep Caleb away from the nuts and bolts for long! He started to put them together. This was a great way to practice those little fingers ๐Ÿ™‚

Homeschool : Carpentry

My rice cooker conked out so we got a new one. It came in a box with some styrofoam to keep it in place. Here’s what we did with the styrofoam before we threw it away.

Carpentry work! This activity was fun and great for hand-eye coordination. I raided my husband’s tool box for the concrete nails – they weren’t too sharp (duller than a sharpened pencil) and were long enough for Caleb to hold.

The styrofoam was soft yet firm for the nails to be hammered into. When Caleb got tired hammering, he started pulling out the nails.

Fun with trash!
