Light and Heavy

I got different objects from the pantry and around the house for Caleb to sort by weight.

CALEB: It’s sooooo heavy! (Making faces.)

All done sorting!

I brought out the kitchen scale for Caleb to use. This helped to reinforce the concepts of light and heavy plus it’s something new for him to try.

Weighing things.

I told him that the farther the pointer moves away from the zero, the heavier it is. He enjoyed reading the weight of each object. It was only from 0-3kilos, easy for him to read.

He wanted to make the pointer reach all the way to the end so we overloaded the scale. He was so proud to tell me that it was too much, too heavy! Since the pointer went way beyond 3.

This is a simple and fun activity for comparing weights. Thanks for reading! 🙂

Long and Short

Caleb wanted to do some “studying” but I wasn’t able to prepare for homeschool since we just got back from holiday and I was still on holiday mode. Anyway, here is our instant homeschool activity! Grouping and comparing long and short straws.
I cut the straws and Caleb sorted them by length and stuck them on play doh.

All done!

Caleb did this activity quite fast and wanted to do more! I guess he really missed our study time. So I gave him some popsicle sticks to sort.

He described the sticks as fat and thin.

When Caleb was done, he still wanted to do some more so I challenged him to use the sticks to make a cage for his dinosaur. This took some time for him to figure out and had some help from me 😉

He was happy with his creation.

Lock and Keys

I provided Caleb with plenty of keys and told him to open the lock.

He tried using a big key first.
CALEB: It’s not fit. (Meaning: It doesn’t fit)
ME: Oh no! Why not?
CALEB: It’s too big!
ME: Try another one.

He found the set of small keys and tried it on the lock.

Great workout for those little fingers!

There were three small keys in the set.
After trying them one by one, he was able to open the lock.

Happy face of success!
